Tura Winery is a family-run “Estate Winery”, and one of the most meticulous boutique wineries in the country. Tura winery was founded in 2003 in the village of Rechelim by Vered and Erez Ben Sa’adon. Their vineyards are planted, since 1997, around Bracha community located on an 850 meter high mountain. The high altitude and mountain terrain provide the optimal climate for growing superb wine grapes. The range of exceptional Tura wines are produced with a lot of love, patience and inspiration. The wines are all full-bodied, bursting with fruit flavors, and are marketed after a lengthy maturation period in the winery’s cellars.
Today there is a very serious approach to the significance of soil types in the vineyard, the angle of exposure to the sun, the winds and their direction, climate and micro-climate, the vineyard’s altitude above sea level and its effect on the grapes and wines. As the altitude rises the temperatures get lower, but the exposure to the sun also increases. In most wine regions around the world, vineyards are not planted at altitudes exceeding 1,000 meters – beyond this elevation the cold adversely affects the ripening of the grapes.
Tura Winery’s vineyards were found to be some of the finest vineyards in the country. They enjoy a unique and rare terroir, and ultimate growing conditions. These arise from the vineyard’s altitude on an 850 meter high mountain, exposed to winds from the west. The fog which lies upon the vineyard until late morning and the weather (16 degrees in summer nights with a humidity of 98%, and minus 4 degrees in the winter and sometimes snow) together with rocky terra rossa land, give the grapes exceptional quality which has become known in the region and around the country. It turns out that the difference in temperatures at the high altitude makes a difference. The vines are richer and have a powerful aroma, which affects the quality of the wines and contributes to a wide range of enhanced flavors.
The first 5 acres of vineyards were planted by Vered and Erez Ben Sa’adon in 1997 in the village of Bracha. Since then, they have planted many more. In total, Tura winery owns nearly 150 acres of wine vineyards from the varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Shiraz, Petit Verdot, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewurztraminer and Viognier.
Vered and Erez Ben Sa’adon studied oenology at Tel Hai College and the Ariel University. After they acquired professional equipment they set up the Tura winery in 2003 in the village of Rechelim in Samaria. In the first year the winery produced 1200 bottles, and a year later production increased to 2800 bottles.
In the past year Tura winery produced 56,000 bottles. The plan is to produce 100,000 bottles within a few years.
At the winery there is also a visitor center that can accommodate up to 55 people. Entrance is for a fee and by appointment.
Tura wines are OU Kosher, under the supervision of Rabbi Ungar, Badatz Beit Yosef and Rabbi Avner Nehushtan of Rechelim.
